Personal Support Workers are considered an integral part of the health care team. They are front line workers, first contact for personal care to seniors and disabled clients.
Personal support workers do not cut or trim the nail of diabetic clients, clients on blood thinners or clients who have certain circulatory disorders. During the course they will be taught how to identify abnormal disorders of the skin and nail during an assessment. The course reviews the theory of Basic foot care and is taught by fellow registered nurses with extensive knowledge and training in Basic and Advanced Nursing Foot care and Diabetic foot care.
This program provides the theory of basic foot care but also teaches the importance of assessment of the diabetic foot and other foot complications via (online/webinar) and practical (in class) instruction. The course is set up so students can learn at home following the online webinar schedule (module 1-6), then complete the final in class 1 day (module 7), by practicing on each other. Please do not cut your toenails for one month prior to start of course. No nail polish please.
Full attendance and participation is mandatory.
